People are not just making it seem like that lol

Saying "they're gay for each other" would be doing a massive disservice to the depth & intensity of their connection. Yes, they have probably the most romantic dialogue I've ever heard and the sexual tension & subtext is palpable, but it's so, so much more than that.

[–]Fairymask 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Genuine answer-yes.

[–]vebiloshertom 44 points45 points  (2 children)

I think we all agree that their relationship is complex and that it's not only based on a mere sexual attraction (canonically, Hannibal is pan and Will queer, btw); However, if you are interested in knowing if the queer nature of the relationship is confirmed, then yes. Both inside and outside the show, by its author. Subtext is mostly used (the very passionate kind that would not be doubted in any way if they were a straight couple), but yeah, it's also verbalized that one of them is in love with the other in a scene...

You really should watch it, I recommend it. My favorite show!

Will is not Queer Canonically. Lmao Read Red Dragon, what started Hannibal.

[–]Ackkmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

??? Why are you bringing up red dragon... They're not even in love in the books, we're talking about the nbc series made by bryan fuller, they're not the same. and in the series they're canonically queer and in love

[–]bumblepup_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

their relationship is so much more complex than being gay for eachother, but yeah theyre gay for eachother

[–]ayerim0611 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They are into each other, that's canon if you watch the show (specially season 3). It's said loud & clear!!!

[–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

They have an all pervasive relationship encompassing therapist -patient, mentor -mentee, friends, family, philosopher you name it.

And yes, it also includes a romantic connection between them. And there is a thick erotic / sexual subtext which can be interpreted openly.

Hannibal is not queerbait— it is queer art, made by a queer man with a dark, gothic romance in mind. They do not kiss or have sex on screen, but very strong parallels are drawn between them and other couples, they send each other murder valentines, and it is confirmed in the dialogue that Hannibal is definitely in love with Will.

Honestly, I know shipping can sometimes get out of control, but this show and the interactions between these two men would make no sense whatsoever if they weren't some level of queer or into each other. Like, I re-watxhed it and tried to imagine them as just friends and it literally made zero sense. Nobody does the things these two do and say if they aren't in love.

[–]InkyCreatures 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very complex and I think in some ways has been downplayed a bit for television. The ending was always meant to be them together but they never kiss since the director felt it would seemed forced.

saying theyre gay for each other is an understatement. i wont get to much into it, but lets just say that even the 4 people, respectfully, who think they arent gay for each other agree that theyre relationship is. lets say... a deep connection that pierces their souls. so yes. and if they arent, they still are

[–]Slow-Ad-4577 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If someone says they’re not gay for eachother I don’t know what show they’re watching

[–]yTylluan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Hannibal is in love with him emotionally, his mind and I am positive he wants to know what pure empathy tastes like(literally not intimately) and I think think will may be but for him it’s a very toxic and dangerous attraction so he is hesitant, because Hannibal sees what he could be if he embraces his darker tendencies and I think that scares him, being that well known.

Bryan said their relationship is queer. In a tweet.

[–]Katululu 20 points21 points  (1 child)

They don’t hook up in the show, but they share an intense emotional connection. It’s love, but not necessarily romantic love (though there are suggestions of physical attraction as well on Hannibal’s end.).

[–][deleted] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It is romantic love though as per canon. But not just romantic love for sure, they have an all pervasive relationship.

Sexual connotation is up to interpretation.

[–]-mystycgyrl- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely. one of my favorite parts is how they express their relationship in the show, because they never do it in a literal manner. sure, a kiss would have been great, but i honestly wouldn't trade what was given to us for a more literal and basic expression of it all.

[–]Ok_Yam_1437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh that is a very over simplified way of saying it, but yes. I’s so much more than just a sexual or romantic relationship, and when you watch it you’ll see.

[–]_cantmakeyouloveme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–]Imaginary_lock 11 points12 points  (2 children)

. I’m just confused if they’re actually into each other or people are making it seem like that just because it’s two men????

What's that supposed to mean "it's two men????"

So? There's nothing about them both being men that requires 4 fucking question marks.

[–]-mystycgyrl- 7 points8 points  (1 child)

the op was just concerned that the ship was based off nothing. oftentimes, in lots of media, people will have queer ships simply to make it queer, rather than because there is a genuine deep connection between the characters. tbh, i totally get the question and it's pretty valid. will and hannibal's relationship is hard to understand if you haven't seen the show, so i totally get why they would think the ship just existed to be mlm.

[–]ApprehensiveAd6362[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thank you. that was exactly my point. i’ve seen so so many people shipping two male characters.. simply because they’re two attractive males interacting w each other. i meant no harm!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their relationship is something hard to describe. But S3 leaves no dbts! So watch it. Even if they're not gay their chemistry is worth watching!

[–]Alexis_Muckleory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–]jackie--and--wilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But it's never expressed explicitly.

[–]Live_Activity_340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

⚠️spoilers⚠️Yes the answer is yes. It hints to it a lot of times by saying in the show. Will:”is Hannibal in love with me” and the answer was yes then he was asked “do you ache for him” will didn’t answer. Another scene to point out is bedilia telling Hannibal “forgiveness and betrayal is a act of falling in love” and then Hannibal saying “you can not control whom you fall in love with” pointing out that Hannibal is in love with will. There are more examples that I can go through if you need more like will practically saying he wants to run away with Hannibal. And will sailing across the world to find Hannibal.

[–]HollowHannibal 3 points4 points  (2 children)

No. They are not conventionally gay. Graham is heterosexual. Hannibal is bisexual. They are still for sure into each other on a intellectual level. The creator has stated multiple times that their love for each other transcends physical intimacy. While some could call their relationship “gay”, that’s only because it doesn’t fit their conventional definition of heterosexual. Which is kinda close minded if you ask me. That is what makes their relationship so great. They transcend sexuality and understand each other on a level that is almost other worldly.

[–]Ackkmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's romantic, they are canonically in love with each other, but it's a very complex relationship

[–]LORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old... but you can be gay and not have sex. You can also be hetero yet one particular guy will just do it for you. It's just identifiers, doesn't have to be that complex.

[–]No-Excitement-3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes no questions damn asked they are the gayest queers I ever damn seen in my life👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨
